Market leader Toyota has opened its 2018 scorecard in emphatic style by achieving its best January sales in a decade, according to official figures released today.
Toyota’s 10-year January high of 15,306 new-vehicle sales included record first-month deliveries of the top-selling HiLux, reinforcing its position as Australia’s best-selling vehicle.
Toyota’s tally was the strongest January result for the brand’s local dealers since 2008 – and a gain of 21.9 per cent over the same month last year.
HiLux, entering its 50th year in showrooms, has established a commanding sales lead with a January record of 3,860 deliveries.
LandCruiser Prado also joined the January record-breaking with 1,169 vehicles sold, up 10 per cent on January 2017, ensuring Prado maintained its leadership of the large SUV segment.
Other segment leaders for Toyota were Camry, LandCruiser wagon, HiAce van and HiAce bus.
Toyota’s vice-president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said the impressive January result continued the company’s sales momentum.
Mr Hanley said Toyota’s efforts to offer outstanding customer service continued to pay dividends and build strength in the brand.
“Our SUV sales in January were up more than 40 per cent compared with a year ago, and this remarkable growth was almost matched by our light-commercial vehicles,” Mr Hanley said.
“Together with our dealers, we are committed to offering ever-better vehicles and service.
“With the arrival of new models including the introduction of a trio of daring high-end HiLux models, we hope Toyota’s success will continue strongly this year,” he said.
